Linguistics Colloquium 51

810 September 2016, Vilnius

Extended deadline of abstract submission: 5/30/2016

Dear colleagues,

we are pleased to invite you to the 51st Linguistics Colloquium focusing on the linguistic perspectives of ‘foreign’ and ‘own’ languages. The Conference will be held between the 8th and 10th of September 2016 at the Faculty of Philology, Vilnius University. The Conference aims to contribute to disseminating research on the role, function and use of “foreign” and “own” languages in our modern world. The Conference also intends to provide a platform for the discussion of related theoretical and practical questions arising in various academic circles. We are proud to announce that our plenary speakers, who will be focusing on different aspects of the main topic, have already confirmed their participation at the conference. The plenary speakers and their talks are listed below:

Prof. Dr. Axel Holvoet (Vilnius) Rendering speech at different levels
Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Pöckl (Innsbruck) Das Fremde in der eigenen Sprache
Dr. Diana Šileikaitė-Kaishauri (Vilnius) Wie eine fremde Sprache zur eigenen wird
Prof. Dr. Gerhard Stickel (Mannheim) Die eigene Sprache in Europa

We invite contributions dealing with different aspects of the role, function and use of ‘foreign’ and ‘own’ languages. We welcome researchers from any country of the world and from different linguistic backgrounds. Especially welcome are papers in contrastive linguistics which might eventually lead to new insights regarding the relation and interaction of “foreign” and “own” languages. We look forward to abstracts of presentations focusing on, but not limited to, one or more of the following aspects of study:

phonetics and phonology
grammar and grammaticography
word formation
lexicology and lexicography
semantics and pragmatics
phraseology
historical linguistics
text linguistics and discourse analysis
